This year was a particularly challenging year to get the display done.  With Hurricane Sandy and a snowstorm shortly thereafter coupled with the fact that Thanksgiving was one week early this year, we really only had a few weeks to get done what we did.  With that I have to give BIG kudos to my wonderful helper elf, my wife, Ann.  She was great at helping me with the display and getting it up.  Through the cold we got it done and luckily we actually had some nice weather to do it.  Normally it's super cold or raining or snowing outside.  So thank you honey for all your help!

I do hope you enjoy the display and from our home to your's we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year!

Merry Christmas!

We're Getting There!

Well, we got a lot done on Sunday.  Only have a couple more trees to put up and a few more deer as well as I have to fix the soldier's head (I accidentally broke it into a billion pieces last year when I took it down).  This year we should have approximately 35,000 lights.  No lights on the roof.  Snowflakes this year.  I did not buy enough so only the garage is covered.  Next year when they have the sale I'll make sure to buy enough.

Also waiting for a new controller for the Gingerbread men tossing the pepperment.

But all in all, we're doing good.  After this is all up my arm can finally heal itself (I have a bad case of tendinitis in my arm).

Also, people have asked and yes, Santa will be here on Friday.  He will only be here for an hour.  The lights go at 5:00 so Santa will be here from 5:30 to 6:30.  Be sure to drop off your letters to Santa.

We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Slowly I Turn, Step by Step, Inch by Inch

Niagra Falls!

Slowly we are getting the light display up.  We are truly hoping to have everything set for the day after Thanksgiving.  The arches went up this past weekend along with the icicle lights and my wife tediously put red and white lights all around the bushes and trees in the driveway.  She did a superb job.  Much better job than I would have done.  This weekend I'm planning on trying to get all the other stuff in the front yard...deer, animated gingerbread etc...and finally by the day after Thanksgiving I should be able to plug it all in and do the lights on the trees...God willing.

Also, I'll be at the Silver Sands Stop and Shop on Bridgeport Ave on Thursday, November 15th from 6 am to 12:30 pm collecting turkeys, non-perishable foods and cash with Star 99.9 for the Connecticut Food Bank.  Stop down, say hi and bring a can of food for those in need!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The Show Must Go On!

I first want to wish everyone well after such a devastating storm that hit our area.  I do hope everyone is safe and sound and wish you all the best in the coming days and months.

We normally have more of the display done but with Sandy coming in, I decided not to start the display until late.  Also, this year, I decided not to put up all the lights on the roof but to put up snowflakes.  Unfortunately I mis-calculated and didn't have enough.  Therefore, only the garage roof will have snowflakes.  We're also waiting to get a new window installed so I can't put the lights on the siding.  It's been one obstacle after another.  With the obstacles I had almost decided to cancel the lighting but to be honest with you, many people could probably use a little holiday cheer, even if the house isn't as bright as past years.  So, with the help from my beautiful wife, we got the snowflakes on the roof and the 3 mega trees in the front yard.  A little over 10,000 lights so far.  We will have the arches up this weekend and then everything else in the front yard after that.

Of course we will be raising money for the Connecticut Food Bank and they could definitely use the money or food.  Their shelves are bare after Sandy.

Also, Santa Energy has also promised to match the donations again this year!  Thank you Santa!

So, we will be up and running hopefully right after Thanksgiving.

Keep checking back!

Merry Christmas!

Thank you to the Milford Patch Community for voting us the Best Decorated House in Milford Connecticut for 2011!  We are one of the 860 houses in the Patch Community now being judged.  On Friday the 30th, they will announce the 24 Semi Finalists.  If we do win that division, then we get our electric bill for December paid for and go on to the Finals.  If we win the overall contest, $100,000 will be donated to our local Milford school of our choice in our names.  Wish us luck!

We're done!

The display is finished.  We actually worked on it last Sunday for about 5 hours and got everything up and running.   The only thing that isn't working temporarily is the Gingerbread on the Trampoline.  I'm waiting on a new controller and it should be here by Monday.

Don't forget kids, we have a Santa Mailbox this year so drop your letter in to Santa and as long as you include your address, Santa will send you a nice letter!

Tomorrow is the big day.  Hopefully they'll all go on at 5:00.  Keep my fingers crossed.

I'd like to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy the day and be sure to stop by at night to see the display!

We're Almost Finished!

Hopefully by this weekend we will be completed with the setup of the Christmas display.  Those pesky leaves decided to fall late this year and now of course I have to clear the leaves from around the display.  This should be fun.

If everything can get up this weekend the only thing left to do is to run the power cords to the outlets and test everything....and pray!

Merry Christmas!

Lights are Going UP!

I can't believe it's that time of year again.  Boy does the time fly!   This past Friday I put up the lights on the roof.  It normally takes about 6 hours by myself but this year I had help!  Big thank you goes out to Nick for helping me.  Cut my time in almost half. Only took about 3 1/2 hours this year.  Still in just as much pain though.

Sunday, my wife and I were supposed to go to the Jersey Boys show but unfortunately she got a really bad cold so we couldn't attend.  Since the weather was nice enough I decided to put  up the rest of the lights on the house.  So, if you go driving by sometime you'll see the entire house wrapped in Christmas lights.

After Halloween is over, the rest of the lights will start to go up.

Merry Christmas!

Family Science Day

Be sure to stop by the Smart Living Center in Orange on the Boston Post Road this weekend.  They are having a Family Science Day that will include demonstrations on efficient lighting and how to save money on your utility bills.  I will be there as well promoting efficient Christmas lighting.  Be sure to stop by the booth!

On October 22nd I will be giving a lecture at the Smart Living Center on efficient holiday lighting from 10:00 to 11:00 in the morning.  Be sure to stop by and listen to the talk if you have some time!

And of course, the lights.  They will be going up soon!  Be sure to look up if you're driving by and see a ladder in front of the house.  It will be me and 10,000 lights!

Happy Christmas in July!

Well the thermometer says it's 90 degrees outside.  Friday it's going to be in the 90s with a heat index of over 100 degrees and I'm thinking Christmas.  Just this past weekend I starting building a Santa Mail bin.  This year will mark the first time that any children who want to write to Santa Claus may drop their letter in the Santa Mailbox (no postage necessary as it's a magical mailbox!) and as long as there is a return address, Santa will make a concerted effort to return a letter to each child that dropped a letter in the bin!    This is a picture of the actual mailbox.  Still needs to have the curved top as well as a paint job.  Other than that, I'm 75% done.
